Heat
is created in the body with the practice of ‘Ujjayi’ Pranayama. So it is
advisable to practice it in winter.
Procedure for Ujjayi (Victorious
Breath or Ocean Breath):
- Sit in the position of Padmasana or Siddhasana.
- Close the mouth.
- Contract the lower part of the tongue and the glottis and inhale rapidly and deeply through both the nostrils and fill the lungs up to the brim.
- Then practice Kumbhaka for as much time as possible.
- Then close the right nostril with the right thumb and slowly exhale through the left nostril.
- While inhaling, expand the thoracic cage.
- This makes a faint sobbing sound as the glottis is half-closed.
Advantages of Ujjayi (Victorious
Breath or Ocean Breath):
- This Pranayama reduces the heat of the head and cures asthma, tuberculosis and diseases of the lungs.
- It kindles the gastric fire and activates the digestive system, the respiratory system and the nervous system.
